Growing up my parents always had company. When my parents' friends came over, I always referred to them as 'auntie' or 'uncle'. Ever since I could remember, I used the term 'auntie' and 'uncle'. It is customary in the filipino culture to refer to elder filipinos as 'auntie' and 'uncle'. I always found it convenient when I met someone and forgot their name... I could always just say, 'Hi Uncle!' or 'Hi Auntie!' The scariest thing was wondering who was--in fact--my real aunts and uncles!
